Tuesday Tips: What Financial Freedom Really Looks Like—And How to Feel It

What is financial freedom

In this week’s Tuesday Tip video, we ask: what is financial freedom? It’s more than money. Learn how to define and feel financial freedom, especially in life’s next chapter. Please watch the video below, or read the transcript that follows, to learn more.

Have you ever asked the question, “What is financial freedom?”

Hi, I’m Phil Weiss, founder of Apprise Wealth Management.

If you’ve ever Googled “financial freedom,” you know it means something different to everyone.

To some, it’s about never worrying about money again.
To others, it’s quitting a job they don’t love.
And to many of the women I work with, it’s something much deeper.

Today, I want to help you reimagine what financial freedom for women really looks like—and more importantly, what it can feel like in your life.

What is important about money to you

I often ask clients, “What is important about money to you?” The two most common answers I get are security and freedom. If you think about it, these answers shouldn’t be a surprise. I find that many who are less secure about their financial future or further from retirement tell me that money provides security.

This makes sense. Having money can provide a sense of security. It can help us put a roof over our heads, provide for ourselves and our families, and keep us from worrying about “eating cat food” because we don’t have enough money. Believe it or not, before we start working together, many clients express concerns about having to eat cat food.

As our financial security grows, our mindset shifts. Money becomes less about protection and more about possibility. We use it to buy time, take that trip, or explore something new. We start to envision a future where we no longer have to work. Next, let’s take a closer look at freedom.

What is financial freedom?

What is financial freedom, really? Let’s start by challenging the traditional definition.

Financial freedom for women isn’t just about having enough money.

It’s about having the confidence to make choices—without fear, without guilt, and without constantly second-guessing yourself.

It’s the freedom to…

  • Take a solo trip you’ve been dreaming about.
  • Support your kids or grandkids without sacrificing your security.
  • Go back to school or start something new at 55 or 65.
  • Say no to things that drain you, and yes to what lights you up.

Here’s the truth: while we often associate financial freedom with a number, it is not a number.
It’s a feeling.

That feeling might come when your calendar opens up.

When you finally stop checking your bank balance before every decision. When you no longer worry about the market’s day-to-day fluctuations.
Or when you feel proud of how far you’ve come, even if you didn’t take the “traditional” path to get there.

TEAM - Time, Energy, Attention, and Money
Your TEAM of Resources

Your TEAM of Resources

At Apprise, I use a simple framework to help you define freedom on your terms. I call it TEAMTime, Energy, Attention, and Money.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I spending my time on what matters?
  • Is my energy going toward things that fuel me—or drain me?
  • Where is my attention focused—and what’s distracting me from what I really want?
  • And is my money aligned with my values—not someone else’s expectations?

When your TEAM is working in harmony, financial freedom doesn’t feel far off. It feels close. Grounded. Yours.

You might be rebuilding after a divorce or loss.
You might be stepping into the unknown after raising a family.
Or maybe you’re simply tired of feeling like your money’s running the show.

Wherever you are, know this: You have the right to define freedom for this version of you.

And if you’re not sure where to start? That’s where I come in.
