About Phil Weiss

Phil Weiss, Financial Advisor for Apprise Wealth Managemet
Phil Weiss founded Apprise Wealth Management. He started his financial services career in 1987 working as a tax professional for Deloitte & Touche. For the past 25 years, he has worked extensively in the areas of personal finance and investment management. Phil is a CFA charterholder, a CPA, and an RLP®.

In addition, he has served as a featured media spokesperson, has written weekly commentary on market-related topics, and is a frequent podcast guest. He also continues to blog regularly for Apprise. His investment approach favors the long term, as well as assessing the value and fundamentals of the assets in which he invests.

He launched his own Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) business so he could provide financial planning, personal finance, and investment management services and education to women facing new beginnings. He believes it is a privilege to help others plan for their financial future. Phil grew up in Livingston, New Jersey and graduated from Rutgers University with a BS degree in Accounting. He also attended Duke University for three years where he was a Psychology major.

He and his wife, Diana, live in Maryland and are the proud parents of four children – six if you count their two dogs. Phil enjoys spending time with his family at home, on the fields, and traveling. He likes following his favorite sports teams, cooking, and reading, too. Phil also coached many of the youth sports teams his children played for.

About Megan Kopka

Megan Kopka, a seasoned Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) professional and Registered Life Planner (RLP®) with over 15 years of experience, distinguishes herself in the financial planning arena. Her journey is deeply rooted in personal experiences, including roles as a caregiver and widow, shaping her distinctive approach to financial planning.

Facing pivotal moments early in her career, Megan’s commitment to bridging the gap between financial planning and the nuanced needs of widows and caregivers became her mission. As a managing partner of Apprise Wealth Management, Megan combines her professional acumen and personal insights to offer comprehensive and empathetic financial solutions tailored for those facing similar circumstances.

Megan is a former educator and strives to educate women facing new beginnings about their personal financial well-being and best practices. In addition, she has been featured on podcasts, and spoken professionally for caregivers, widows, and inside the financial industry as it pertains to guiding widows through financial planning.

She launched her own Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) business so she could provide financial planning, personal finance, and investment management services and education to widows and caregivers. She believes that a client-advisor relationship is likely the most intimate professional relationship one can engage in. Megan is the mother of two adult children: Bruce, her son, who is working in the Maritime industry, and Jaden, her daughter, who is pursuing her pilot’s license. An active member of the Modern Widows Club, Megan is dedicated to inspiring and empowering widows and caregivers through her unique blend of personal and professional expertise.

 

 

Merger Announcement

We have some exciting news to share! As of January 1, 2024, Apprise Wealth Management and Kopka Financial have merged. The combined firm will retain the name of Apprise Wealth Management. Phil Weiss, CFA, CPA, RLP®, from Apprise Wealth Management, and Megan Kopka, CFP®, RLP®, from Kopka Financial, will serve as the managing partners of the newly integrated firm.

We expect to serve our current and prospective clients with increased care and expertise. We believe this merger will enhance your life plans and ours!

This merger represents the next step in our commitment to enhancing our service offering and expanding its depth. For both firms, life planning serves as the focal point in the financial planning relationship. In our view, life planning represents financial planning done right. Kopka Financial’s business centers on working with widows and caregivers. This seamlessly integrates with Apprise’s focus on empowering women facing new beginnings.
