Frequently Asked Questions
What does “fee-only” mean?
Fee-only means Apprise is compensated directly by our clients. We do not receive commissions for selling investment products. This structure helps keep our interests aligned with yours and lets us focus on the advice and services we believe are appropriate for you.
How do you determine my investment management fee?
For clients who pay an asset-based fee, the fee depends on the amount of assets we manage and the type of investments held in the portfolio. You can find our primary fee schedules above.
Why are the fees different for portfolios that include individual stocks?
Portfolios that include individual equities generally require additional research, monitoring, trading, and tax management. For that reason, our fee schedule for portfolios containing individual stocks differs from our fee schedule for portfolios invested only in mutual funds and ETFs.
Do your fees decrease as my portfolio grows?
Yes. Our asset-based fee schedule is tiered. As the amount of assets we manage increases, we apply lower fee percentages at higher asset levels. We do not stair-step our fees, meaning that we apply the lower percentage at higher asset levels across your entire account.
Do you offer a flat-fee option instead of charging based on assets under management?
In some situations, yes. We can discuss an annual flat-fee arrangement when it better fits the services you need and the complexity of your financial situation. Our minimum annual flat fee is $8,000, paid in quarterly installments.
How do you decide whether an asset-based fee or flat fee is appropriate?
That depends on your circumstances, the services you need, the assets we will manage, and the complexity of your financial life. We will explain the applicable fee structure before you decide whether to work with us so you understand what you will pay and how we will calculate your fee.
Does the investment management fee include financial planning?
Our client relationships integrate investment management with broader financial planning. Your advisory agreement will describe the specific services included in your relationship so you understand both the services we will provide and the fees you will pay.
Are there costs in addition to Apprise’s advisory fee?
There can be. For example, mutual funds and ETFs generally have their own internal expenses. Depending on the accounts and investments involved, other third-party costs may also apply on rare occasions. These expenses are separate from the advisory fee paid to Apprise.
Is the fee negotiable?
For portfolios of $5 million or more, our fee schedule indicates that the investment management fee is negotiable. We may also consider alternative fee arrangements for special circumstances.
Will I know what my fee will be before becoming a client?
Yes. We will discuss the services we expect to provide and the applicable fee structure before you become a client. You should understand both what you are paying and what you are receiving in return.
